Sometimes the nicest thing you can do for yourself is to hit “Save,” close the window, eat some popcorn, and go to bed.
It’s not wimping out. It’s not being weak. It’s SELF-CARE (and not the kind that involves buying a thousand-dollar jade roller or whatever).
I grew up in an environment where you were encouraged to put yourself last. Give 110%! Don’t be selfish! The last shall be first! Murder your sanity! (OK, not that last one.) So it’s taken me a while to unlearn that and replace it with, “Be nice to yourself, and that’s actually one of the best things you can do for the people you love. Be nice to yourself, and THAT’S NOT BEING SELF-INDULGENT!”
So this is your daily reminder. If you’ve been neglecting yourself, or just really gotten into the zone: drink some water, take a nap, look at silly cats online, paint your toenails, watch a Samantha Bee video…whatever your thing is. Loving yourself is not a luxury; it’s a necessity!
